Unbelievable! No amber alert issued.

lanier

According to a report from Russ Ptacek, and Erin Van der Bellen of  News Channel 9, MPD Chief Lanier now admits that no Amber Alert was ever issued  by jurisdictions outside of the District of Columbia because it was never requested. Somebody in the DC government dropped the ball again. (Report)

Well I guess this actually answers the question in my previous post. This latest incident is another unfortunate screw-up by DC government officials which has unfortunately delayed the search efforts for little Relisha Rudd. Mayor Gray and Deputy Mayor Quander need to address this latest debacle immediately.

Is it finally time for an Administration change in DC.?

Who Botched the Amber Alert?

RelishaTenau RuddAlthough originally botched, an Amber Alert is now active for 8-year-old Relisha Tenau Rudd. Police believe Relisha is with  51-Khalil Tatumyear-old Khalil Tatum, a janitor at the homeless shelter where the girl had been living with her mother. Thursday, while searching for Relisha and Tatum, police found Tatum’s wife, beaten to death, at a Red Roof Inn on Oxon Hill Road in Prince George’s County MD. Tatum has now been charged with the death of his wife, Andrea Denise Tatum. Relisha’s family is pleading with her abductor to return her home safely.

The Concerned Citizen has a few Red Alert questions for Mayor Gray.

  • Why wasn’t the Amber Alert activated right away by states outside of the District of Columbia?
  • What DC agency is responsible for initiating the alert?
  • Who’s job is it to notify and follow-up with other jurisdictions to ensure that they have activated the alert?
  • Did other states fail to act or was this just another in the long line of recent screw-ups by employees and/or officials who work for the DC government?

Mayor Vince Gray knew about the shadow campaign.

Mayor Vince Gray knew about the illicit Jeff Thompson-funded effort to get him elected in 2010, prosecutors say in court papers filed today connected to Thompson’s plan to plead guilty to corruption charges.

Gray allegedly met with Thompson at Thompson associate Jeanne Clarke Harris‘ apartment in August 2010, according to Thompson’s statement of offense, detailed by federal prosecutors at a court hearing this afternoon. Gray associate Vernon Hawkins had originally relayed the request for $425,000 in illicit help, but Thompson had requested an in-person meeting with Gray before committing the money, court papers say.

Prosecutors say Gray knew the help would be off the books before the meeting. Afterwards, prosecutors say, Gray called Thompson “uncle” in gratitude, a reference to an alias Gray allegedly used to refer to Thompson, “Uncle Earl.”

The hearing revealed other payments Thompson allegedly made on Gray’s behalf. Among them: payment for a driver and luxury SUV in 2010, a $10,000 payment to a “close relative” of Gray’s, and $40,000 in home improvements and work for an unnamed Gray friend.

Once Gray was in office, prosecutors say, Thompson also asked the mayor to speed up a city settlement with his Medicaid contractor that has been another focus of federal investigation.

Stepped back!

Former Washington D.C. city Councilman Sentenced to 38 Months in prison for Fraud. Harry Thomas Jr. was sentenced by a federal judge May 3 to 38 months in prison for stealing more than $350,000 in taxpayer funds.

Thomas pleaded guilty in January to using nearly $350,000 from a nonprofit with which he was affiliated; however, federal prosecutors said Thomas actually stole more than $440,000 from the programs and that his theft began even before he was sworn in as a council member in 2007.
