DC Council reverses Mayor’s Budget:

By unanimous voice vote, the D.C. Council approved the $21 billion fiscal year Tell the DC Council: Help DC residents, don't give tax cuts for the wealthy2025 budget on Wednesday, reversing budget cuts requested by Mayor Muriel Bowser.

The budget the mayor proposed was criticized for cutting programs that help the last, the lost, and the least. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said, “The council’s budget resets the District on the path to fight poverty and promote social justice.”

Deadly Shooting in District Heights:

One man is dead and two others were injured after a shooting outside of a convenience store in District Heights, Maryland, on Monday afternoon.

Police Reform Continues in Prince George's - The Washington InformerAnthony Ward III, 19, of Upper Marlboro, was pronounced dead on the scene. A man in his 60’s and a woman in her 50’s were also hurt with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

According to PG County police, the shooting took place in a parking lot near the 24/7 Fresh Market convenience store in the 5400 block of Marlboro Pike

Police haven’t said what may have led up to the shooting, or whether those involved knew each other. They are requesting that anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 866-411-8477

Fathers Day Concert:

This Saturday, June 15th, Wiley Brown and the Chuck Brown Band will headline a free concert at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, MD. from noon to 5 p.m. The lineup includes Trouble Funk, the Luther Relives Tribute, and the Brencore All Stars.

Maryland Parole Agent Found Dead:

The body of a Maryland parole agent who was allegedly killed while conducting a routine visit last month was found wrapped in plastic and left underneath a bed according to the charging documents filed against Emanuel Edward Sewell, 54,Registered sex offender suspected in death of Maryland ... who is being charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 33-year-old Davis Martinez.

Martinez was a parole agent who was tasked with visiting Sewell’s Chevy Chase apartment to verify that he lived at his listed address. Just before 6 p.m. on May 31, Martinez’s co-workers grew concerned after he never returned to work from a visit to Sewell’s apartment in the 2800 block of Terrace Drive.
