Police say they are investigating a deadly shooting that took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 1st 2023. Just after 3:45 a.m., police were 
called to the 4000 block of 13th Street SE, for the report of a shooting. The victim, a woman, was shot and killed. This shooting happened amid a spate of overnight shootings. Metropolitan police advised that there were at least four other shootings overnight reported within hours of each other.

- 1400 block of M Street NW
- 100 block of Wayne Place SE
- 2500 block of Georgia Avenue NW
It’s not yet known how many fatalities there were if any, but the shootings contribute to growing concerns about gun violence and homicide rates within the District of Columbia and the seeming inability of authorities to curb the violence. The city has seen more than 214 homicides according to the latest data from the Metropolitan Police Department.
