October 2nd 2023: The report of an armed carjacking came in to DC 911 at approximately 9:32 pm on Monday night stating that the incident was occurring at the intersection of New Jersey and K Street in Southeast DC but no victim information was given at that time. Soon after police arrived on the scene, it was discovered that Democratic Texas Rep.
Henry Cuellar had been carjacked at gunpoint near his residence, in the Navy Yard area of Washington, D.C., just blocks from the United States Capitol. Cuellar’s chief of staff Jacob Hochberg released a statement Monday night saying: “As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, 3 armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle and cell phone. Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement.” As of the time of this posting, the Congressman’s stolen vehicle, a white Honda CHR, has since been recovered.
Per D.C. Police statistics, As of Sunday, October 1st 2023, there have been 750 “CARJACKINGS” in Washington D.C. – Seventy Five percent (75%) of which involved the use of guns .
