09-26-23: Maurice Jackson
Maurice Jackson Jr., a junior interested in entrepreneurship and architecture, called his mother as classes wound down at school and told her that he would be home soon. Another phone call followed from an acquaintance and Brittany Malloy, a 32-year-old cosmetologist and nurse, learned that her only son had been shot moments after he left Dunbar High School.
Ericka Malloy, Maurice’s grandmother, said, “Muriel needs to do better,” referring to Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D). After learning that her grandson had been. She rushed to New Jersey Avenue and P streets NW where an officer guided her to a cruiser and advised her that Maurice had been taken to the hospital. Jackson was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.
Maurice Jackson was one of two people killed in shootings Tuesday, 62 minutes and six miles apart. D.C.’s homicide count has now surpassed 200 at the earliest date in any year since 1997.
