5 Shot, 2 Dead in the “Murder Capital”.

09-27-23: Nathaniel Limes & James Cooper, Jr.

D.C. police have identified two men that were killed during a shooting in Northeast on Wednesday night.

Nathaniel Limes, 41, of Richmond, Virginia, and James Cooper, Jr., 46, of Northeast D.C., were killed after a reported shooting at around 9:50 p.m. in the 2500 block of 14th Street, police said in a News Release.

Three other people were also injured in the shooting, police said. One person found at the scene was taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries while two others were already being treated at local hospitals.

As of Wednesday, police said one of the three surviving victims was in critical condition, while another had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said officers were looking for three male suspects in a gray SUV on Wednesday.

Student Killed in Shooting as DC’s Homicide Total Grows:

09-26-23: Maurice Jackson

Maurice Jackson Jr., a junior interested in entrepreneurship and architecture, called his mother as classes wound down at school and told her that he would be home soon. Another phone call followed from an acquaintance and Brittany Malloy, a 32-year-old cosmetologist and nurse, learned that her only son had been shot moments after he left Dunbar High School.

Ericka Malloy, Maurice’s grandmother, said, “Muriel needs to do better,” referring to Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D). After learning that her grandson had been. She rushed to New Jersey Avenue and P streets NW where an officer guided her to a cruiser and advised her that Maurice had been taken to the hospital. Jackson was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Maurice Jackson was one of two people killed in shootings Tuesday, 62 minutes and six miles apart. D.C.’s homicide count has now surpassed 200 at the earliest date in any year since 1997.

Teenager Shot to Death in Southeast D.C.

09-25-23: Jamal Jones

A community in Southeast D.C. is devastated after learning on Monday, September 25th 2023 that another teenager was shot and killed. The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Jamal Jones. Police said he had no fixed address.

People in the neighborhood said they heard about 30 shots fired in rapid succession, followed by the sound of cars speeding away. Police responded to the shooting, where a teenager was hit in the 2300 block of Green Street SE near Fort Stanton Park just before 4 p.m. and was found near an apartment building.

Efforts at CPR were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Shooting at the Cru Nightclub:

09-23-23: Blake Bozeman

According to authorities, officers responded just before midnight to a report of a shooting at the Cru lounge and nightclub in the 1300 block of H Street in Northeast. There they found three men and one woman who were shot. All four were taken to hospitals by D.C. Fire and EMS. The three injured people sustained non-life-threatening injuries, D.C. police said one of the men, later identified as 31-year-old Blake Bozeman of Southeast D.C., died.

Bozeman was a former basketball player for Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, and the son of former Morgan State coach Todd Bozeman. He earned two degrees from Morgan State; a Bachelor of Science in marketing in 2014 and a Master’s Degree in 2016. Morgan State officials said Blake Bozeman was a shining example of what it means to be a student-athlete.

The Cru Nightclub has been shut down by police for now, and its liquor license is suspended, pending a hearing.
