The DC Police Department is spending lots of money, in terms of time and manpower, on busting prostitutes and johns while, as of August 13, 2015, city officials report 91 homicides — 20 more than this time last year.

Chief Cathy Lanier has offered a few personal opinions as to why the killings have increased, but she’s been careful not to single out just one explanation to account for the spike.
